 Fostering Multilingual Literacy through “Desk Stories” at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Bhandup

In an effort to align with NEP 2020’s emphasis on multilingualism and foundational literacy, I introduced a unique activity in my classroom called “Desk Stories.” Each student’s favorite story, chosen from their native and regional languages like Hindi, English, Marathi, and Bengali, was pasted on their desk. By rotating seats, students had the opportunity to explore a new story everyday, promoting both reading fluency and an appreciation for linguistic diversity.

“Desk Stories” has been a simple yet powerful way to enhance literacy and embrace India’s linguistic diversity, fully supporting NEP 2020’s vision. This approach has enriched students’ reading skills and nurtured their understanding of multilingualism in a hands-on, engaging way. This activity will make this quote true ” Today’s Reader Tomorrow’s Leader.”
